  • Extended Day Program | Grades K-5

    Our extended day program is offered daily from the conclusion of Beyond the Bell programs at 4:30 until 6:00 p.m. Students will have the opportunity to refresh with an allergen-free snack, engage in supervised playtime, enjoy a good book, or work on completing school assignments. Participants must sign up for a Beyond the Bell program for each day of the week that they enroll in the extended day program. Students will be picked up each day by no later than 6:00 p.m.

  • Fun, Games, and Fitness with Coach Holland | Grades 1-2

    This program will cover many of the games and activities that we study in physical education. We will play a variety of sports while working on skill development, sportsmanship, and team work. This program is designed for the children to have lots of FUN and find success at every turn.

  • Keyboarding & Study Skills with Miss Brown | Grades 3-5

    As schools move further into the digital age, the ability to operate a keyboard efficiently has never been more important.  In this enrichment course for upper elementary students, the development of good keyboarding form and techniques will be emphasized.  Additionally, students will be guided through important study skills like making flash cards, note-taking, active listening and time management. These FUNdamentals taught in a caring and supportive environment will build student confidence and positive self-esteem.

  • Maths Bonanza with Mrs. Levitt | Grades K-2

    Join our energizing after-school “Maths Bonanza” class with games, manipulatives, and hands-on creations that will help build math skills and motivate participants to experience the beauty of math in our world.

  • Sewing | Grades K-5

    Learn to hand sew and embroider with Miss Shannon's Sewing School. All projects teach different sewing skills beginning with learning how to sew on a button. All materials, supplies, and sewing kits are included.

  • Slime & Dough Rebel | Grades K-5

    Slime is a tactile, entertaining goop that kids love to play with, and parents don’t want to deal with! In this fun and engaging class, students will make their own slime (and mess!) here at school. Mix-ins will include glitter, sand, neon paint, and more. We will also mix up our own play-dough, and experience different varieties of clay.

  • Spartan Games | Grades 3-5

    Spartan participants will gain confidence while having a ball running, jumping, climbing, and crawling. This fun and engaging obstacle course style class can’t be beat.

  • CANCELLED: Compassion in Action with Mrs. Levitt | Grades K-5

    Each week, students will learn about a charitable organization in the greater Los Angeles area, across the country, or around the world.  After engaging in thoughtful discussions, the children will have an opportunity to do fun, hands-on projects to help the charities further their missions in addition to learning how to turn their own compassion into action. Community Service hours will be awarded for each week the students attend this course.

  • CANCELLED: Crazy 8’s Math Club with Miss Wade | Grades 3-5

    Crazy 8’s Math Club is designed to get kids fired up about math!  Each week we offer unique, high-energy math activities like Glow-in-the-Dark Geometry and Toilet Paper Olympics. These allow students to socially and collaboratively focus on creative, hands-on math activities, and find an appreciation for math in everyday life.

  • Chess and Board Games with Mr. Fox | Grades 3-5

    Are you in third through fifth grade and looking to sharpen your chess skills? Join Mr. Fox for this exciting enrichment program that teaches elementary-aged students the basics of chess. Students will improve their concentration and strategic thinking. Class time will include guided instruction as well as the opportunity to play other opponents, and alternate between chess and other games of strategy and logic.

  • Dare to Draw with Ms. Richards | Grades 1-3

    Sharpen your pencils and ignite your imagination! Ms. Richards is excited to share her love of art and literature in this fun and heartfelt program. Each week, a fresh and engaging children’s book will be presented, followed by a step-by-step drawing activity inspired by the beloved story. In a warm, tranquil learning atmosphere, technical expertise will be emphasized and creativity encouraged. Students will build a diverse portfolio of their masterpieces to cherish for years to come. Please note, that while this class is offered two days a week, enrollment is for only the day selected. The activities will be the same in each section, so please register for only one day.

  • Lower School Lounge | Grades 2-5

    THE place to be after class dismisses! Looking for an easy way to start your afternoon or find a consistent hang with your Buckley besties?
     
    Consider the Lower School Lounge as a place you can work independently on homework, and puzzles, or do some open-ended crafting and creating. Even better, Lower School Lounge offers a teacher-supervised opportunity to simply catch up with and enjoy time with your friends. Invite a friend or two to join you in the Lower School Lounge.

  • Recess Rebel | Grades K-2

    Up your recess game with this playful course designed to help students improve in all the different physical skills that are utilized in sports and recess time! Each week, a different area of the playground will be highlighted, giving students a chance to hone their skills with jump ropes, hula hoops, monkey bars, and more. Running and team drills will improve agility for recess games like handball, kickball, and four-square. Most of all, participants will be having fun, making friends, and staying active.

  • Robot Building | Grades K-2

    Build 3 awesome robots to take home! Learn engineering principles such as levers, pulleys, and gears, as you design amazing robots that can walk, crawl, and jump on their own!

  • Woodworking: A Workshop for Kids | Grades K-5

    This class is a fun-filled introduction into the world of woodworking, specifically designed for beginners. Students will use fine motor skills to forge a strong connection between the hands and the mind. They are encouraged to try new ideas, exercise their imagination and creativity, and are allowed to make mistakes in a safe environment. With the guidance of an experienced artist/woodworker, children learn how to use tools safely, effectively, and (ultimately) independently. Students will have the opportunity to build a number of take-home projects that increase in complexity as they progress through their session.

  • World Dance | Grades 2-5

    From African dance to Latin fusion, this fun upbeat dance class introduces students to various dance styles from around the world. Students will learn the history and origin of each dance style they are introduced to. Each class starts with a warm-up focusing on technique, strength, and flexibility followed by a fun and challenging dance routine and educational games.

  • Yoga and Mindfulness with Ms. Priolo | Grades 2-5

    Join Ms. Priolo for a relaxing afternoon of yoga and mindfulness. Yoga and mindfulness practices have a positive effect on kids and learning. Yoga has been shown to enhance focus, concentration, comprehension, and memory. Poses help improve posture, balance, coordination, and body awareness. Yoga can also help create an atmosphere of confidence, enthusiasm, and non-competitiveness where everyone finds success, as well as providing opportunities for reflection, patience, and insight, reducing impulsivity, and supporting social and emotional learning.

  • Art Rebel: Holiday Gift Making | Grades K-5

    Join Ms. Eden for some Holiday Gift Making! Students will create greeting cards, wrapping paper, and gifts for their loved ones to celebrate all of the winter holidays that take place during this Beyond the Bell session. We will be taking special care in the creation of our art projects because they will be given as gifts to friends and loved ones.

  • Ceramics: Ceramics & Self Expression | Grades 3-5

    Third through fifth grade students will create ceramic pieces that weave in elements of their personality, opinions, and emotions using various hand-building techniques. New techniques will be introduced, including variations of self-portraiture to new ways to glaze and finish their work. Their sculpted pieces will be glazed, fired in a kiln, and returned at the end of the term. Please note that the 1:30 section is for third through fifth graders only. The later session is for our younger students.

  • Chess Club | Grades K-2

    Chess is an exciting educational experience. This class teaches students to play chess while stimulating problem-solving skills, analytical skills, and critical thinking skills. Each class has a lesson for beginners, a lesson for intermediate/advanced students, and playing time for everybody. Participants have the opportunity to earn certificates, medals, and trophies, and receive booklets to strengthen and reinforce the chess skills they are learning.

  • Culinary Kids Academy - Masters | Grades 3-5

    Culinary Kids Academy is so excited to return to Buckley's afterschool program for our twelfth year! CKA is a revolutionary and amazingly FUN, educator-created, cooking program that empowers youth to expand their culinary comfort zones, increases their self-esteem, and encourages independence - all while learning standards-aligned academics...Oh, and they're having a BLAST while they do it! Be it Math, Science, History, Language Arts, Safety, or Nutrition, CKA utilizes an engaging and entertaining “stealth teaching technique” that has students completely unaware they are growing in vitally important and impactful ways. Students may think they are just having fun cooking phenomenally delicious recipes for an hour, but what they are truly doing is having experiences that will serve them well both socially and academically for a lifetime.

  • Hip Hop | Grades K-2

    A fun energetic dance class for both experienced and brand new dancers. Students will learn the history and origin of hip hop dance and will be introduced to both old and new school hip hop dance styles and moves-from the cabbage patch to the whoa. They will learn how to isolate, wave and pop. class starts with a warm-up focusing on hip hop technique followed by a fun, energetic, and challenging dance routine and educational games.

  • Hoops Rebel | Grades 3-5

    Get ready to take your basketball skills to the next level
    with this advanced basketball program. Students will focus on dribbling, shooting, and ball handling skills. This program is ideal for those interested in playing competitively.

  • Young Doctors: Pre-Med Academy | Grades 3-5

    Come join our Jr. Medical School! Learn about CPR, first aid techniques, how to check blood pressure, pulse and respiration, and even how to apply a sling! Observe dissections and experience hands-on activities using all sorts of medical instruments including stethoscopes, thermometers, dissection tools, and more!

  • Cartoon Rebel | Grades K-5

    Join Ms. Eden to practice your drawing skills while playing imaginative drawing games, creating colorful pictures, and inventing stories and comics. We will use a variety of tools and learn about expressing ourselves with imagination and creativity.

    Come on in so we can discuss everything Disney! Join Miss Brown on a Disney deep dive as we explore the origin and hidden secrets of Disney! We will learn about hidden easter eggs, have a Disney character day and even design our own Disney rollercoasters! Pick your favorite Disney character and get ready to ride with them into the new Electrical Parade!

  • Griffin Study Hall with Ms. Murphy | Grades 3-5

    Griffin Study Hall provides third through fifth graders a nurturing environment on campus to work with classmates and our amazing Buckley Faculty to polish study skills, complete homework assignments, or work on ongoing classroom projects. Ms. Murphy will help students build confidence while supporting their learning.

  • Intermediate Hip Hop | Grades 3-5

    A fun challenging dance class, where students will be introduced to various hip hop dance genres including old school, new school, locking, jazz funk, house, and more. Class starts with a warm-up focusing on strength, flexibility, and hip hop technique followed by a challenging dance routine. Students will learn a brand new routine every few weeks to work on performance skills and retaining choreography.

  • CANCELLED: National Park Adventures with Mrs. Levitt | Grades 2-5

    The Buckley Griffin will be joining you on a wild adventure through some of the nation’s most beloved national parks. We will be virtually visiting a variety of national parks as well as experiencing indoor camping, hiking our nature trail, participating in national park scavenger hunts, art projects, and even skyping with a national park ranger! The Buckley Griffin will introduce you to the junior ranger program as well as conclude our program with the MacGillivray Freeman’s National Parks Adventure Movie. Be ready to become a national park expert with the Buckley Griffin!

    Do you love puzzles? Jigsaw puzzles? Words puzzles? Mystery numbers? This class is for you!     Cute and Cuddly Animals is a hands-on experience with some of the most adorable animals around! Kids will enjoy learning about new animals each week such as guinea pigs, ferrets, miniature chickens, bunny rabbits, and more! This exciting and enchanting class is perfectly suitable for our younger students who are respectful and caring towards animals!

  • Diamond Games with Coach Holland | Grades 2-4

    This program will focus on the skills, drills, and thrills of games like Kickball, Tee Ball, and Baseball. The children will be in a safe and fun environment so that they can comfortably learn new games. We will work to develop hand-eye coordination, and introduce and review throwing and catching mechanics, base running skills, and batting fundamentals. The children will learn teamwork, cooperation, problem-solving, and engage in mini games. We will consistently reinforce having fun, trying your best, and being kind and respectful.

  • Fantasy Football with Mr. Fox | Grades 3-5

    Do you love to watch football? How about running your own team?  Running a fantasy football league is not only fun but educational.  Students will learn the basics including statistics, data analytics, and negotiation skills while participating in fun and engaging conversations with their peers.

  • Jazz Funk | Grades 2-5

    Jazz Funk is an expressive and innovative form of dance that combines hip-hop grooves with jazz techniques. Students will learn fast-paced combinations of movement while finding their own personal style. Class will begin with a warm-up focusing on technique, strength, and flexibility, followed by a center-floor combo.

  • Krafty Kinders with Ms. Brown | Grade K

    What do you get when you cross kindergarten readiness with arts and crafts?  Krafty Kinders, of course!  Kindergarten readiness is made fun in this enrichment course with our amazing Ms. Brown, who will facilitate fun games and craft projects each week with the kindergartners which provide them the opportunity to strengthen fine motor skills, gain independence and foster creativity in a structured, safe, and supportive environment. Particular attention will be paid to pencil grip, cutting skills, early literacy, and familiarizing participants with the proper use of school supplies and learning materials.

  • Brain Games with Mr. Ayers | Grades K-5

    Bring your friends to end the week with fun and engaging games that will improve problem-solving skills, concentration, pattern recognition, and visual perception, while enhancing spatial recognition and increasing reaction time. Students will work alone and in pairs or groups to challenge themselves in a non-competitive and enjoyable way.

  • Griffin Camp Games with Mrs. Levitt | Grades K-5

    Friday afternoons will never be the same again! Come join the Griffins who love camp games! Water Balloon Toss, Dinosaur Egg Hunt, Cornhole, Camouflage Tag, Ga Ga Mystery Style, Skits in a Bag, Sponge Relays, Camping Bingo, Escape Room Camp Style just to name a few! Come with a camp attitude and be ready for FUN!

  • Tae-Kwon-Do | Grades 2-5

    This class, taught by a black belt in the art, includes meditation, stretching, and basic Tae-Kwon-Do techniques. The students will learn self-control, focus, the importance of self-discipline, and the will gain self-confidence.
